DGR latest officer vacancies: Second-career options for retired defence officers

DGR has listed latest officer vacancies for ex-servicemen, including General Manager, Architect, Assistant Architect, Assistant Professor, Senior Grade IIS and Business Development roles. Check posts, dates and application process.

SWN 02 (2)

For many retired defence officers, the biggest question after uniform is not only “what next?” It is also about dignity, purpose and finding a second career where years of service, discipline, leadership and field experience are respected.

The Directorate General Resettlement, commonly known as DGR, has listed a fresh set of job opportunities for officers. These vacancies include government, private-sector and specialised professional roles such as General Manager, Architect, Assistant Architect, Assistant Professor, Senior Grade of Indian Information Service, Business Development Lead and Business Development Manager.

This update is important because several of these vacancies have a closing date of 22 June 2026, while some others close on 24 June 2026. Retired defence officers and eligible ex-servicemen should therefore check the official DGR page immediately and apply only after reading the detailed notification carefully.

What has DGR listed for retired defence officers?

As per the official DGR job assistance page for officers, the latest listed vacancies include the following posts:

Vacancy CodeOrganisationPostCategoryClosing Date
2272026Diwakar Enterprises Private LimitedGeneral ManagerPrivate22 June 2026
2282026Department of Urban Planning, ChandigarhArchitectGovernment22 June 2026

2412026Homeland Securitech Pvt LtdBusiness Development LeadPrivate24 June 2026
2422026Homeland Securitech Pvt LtdBusiness Development ManagerPrivate24 June 2026

This makes the update highly time-sensitive. Officers who are eligible and interested should not depend on forwarded WhatsApp messages or screenshots. The correct step is to visit the official DGR website, download the relevant PDF and follow the application instructions exactly.

Why this update matters for ex-servicemen?

A second career after retirement from the Armed Forces is not always simple. Many officers have strong leadership experience, administrative control, crisis management ability, technical exposure and people-handling skills. But converting that experience into a suitable civilian role needs the right channel.

That is where DGR listings become useful.

These opportunities are not only about employment. They are also about resettlement, transition and meaningful use of defence experience in civil administration, education, media, industry, security technology and business development.

For a retired officer, a good second career can provide financial stability, professional identity and a renewed sense of contribution. For families, it can bring confidence that the officer’s service experience is still valued outside uniform.

Important caution: DGR is not the final recruiting authority

This point must be understood clearly.

DGR has listed these vacancies as part of job assistance for ex-servicemen. However, the final selection or rejection is done by the concerned user organisation. DGR itself states that the listed vacancies are informatory in nature and that DGR has no role in the selection or rejection of any ESM.

So applicants should not treat this as direct DGR recruitment. The correct way to understand it is:

DGR is providing information and forwarding assistance where applicable. The final decision will rest with the employer or user organisation.

This caution is important because many veterans lose time due to misunderstanding the process. Every vacancy notification must be read separately.

General Manager vacancy: Strong role for administrative and factory leadership

One of the listed private-sector opportunities is for the post of General Manager with Diwakar Enterprises Private Limited.

The notification mentions one vacancy, with an approximate CTC of Rs 2 lakh per month. The job location is Bawal, District Rewari, Haryana. The role is linked to heading the factory, and the notification mentions administrative with technical experience, communication in English and Hindi, around 10 years of work experience and age range of 45 to 50 years.

For retired defence officers who have handled administration, manpower, logistics, operations or technical responsibilities, this kind of role may be relevant. But applicants must check whether their qualification, age and experience match the official notification before applying.

Architect and Assistant Architect vacancies in Chandigarh

Two government vacancies have been listed under the Department of Urban Planning, Chandigarh Administration.

The Architect post is a Group A Gazetted, Non-Ministerial post with Pay Level 11 under the 7th CPC. The notification requires a degree in architecture, registration with the Council of Architecture, India, and professional experience.

The Assistant Architect post is a Group B Gazetted, Non-Ministerial post with Pay Level 8 under the 7th CPC. It requires a degree or equivalent diploma in architecture, registration with the Council of Architecture and experience under a registered architect.

These are not general administrative jobs. They are specialised professional posts. Retired officers with architecture background or eligible technical qualifications should check these vacancies carefully.

Assistant Professor at College of Military Engineering, Pune

Another important government vacancy is for Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering, Geo Informatics, at Military Engineering College, Pune, Ministry of Defence.

The notification lists two vacancies and mentions Group A Gazetted, Non-Ministerial status. The scale mentioned is Level 10 with entry pay of Rs 57,700 as per the 7th CPC. The post is linked to teaching and instruction.

This is a useful opportunity for officers with strong academic and technical qualifications in civil engineering and geo-informatics. For officers who want to remain connected with defence training, technical education and knowledge-building, this can be a meaningful second-career option.

Senior Grade of Indian Information Service: A strong option for communication background

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting vacancy is for Senior Grade of Indian Information Service. The notification mentions 45 vacancies across different Indian languages, including Hindi, English, Bengali, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Assamese, Odia, Tamil, Kannada, Manipuri and Kashmiri.

This is an interesting opening because many defence officers have experience in public communication, media handling, briefing, documentation, training, information management and strategic communication.

The notification requires language eligibility, a degree and journalism or mass communication qualification. It also mentions experience in journalistic, publicity or public relation work.

Officers who have served in public relations, media cells, information operations, training institutions or communication-heavy appointments should examine this notification carefully.

Business Development Lead: High-value private-sector role in defence technology

The Business Development Lead vacancy with Homeland Securitech Pvt Ltd is a private-sector opportunity based in Gurgaon. The notification mentions an approximate CTC of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh per month.

The role appears suitable for officers with defence-sector business development experience, technical understanding and exposure to areas such as RF systems, electronic warfare, SIGINT, UAS and counter-UAS technology.

This kind of role shows how the private defence and security technology sector is looking for people who understand both technology and defence procurement. Officers who have worked around procurement, modernisation, electronic warfare, drones, counter-drone systems or government business development may find this relevant.

Business Development Manager: Defence and aerospace experience required

The Business Development Manager vacancy, also with Homeland Securitech Pvt Ltd, is another Gurgaon-based private-sector role. The notification mentions an approximate CTC of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh per month.

The profile asks for experience in business development, government sales or strategic account management within the defence or aerospace sector. It also gives preference to experience in UAS and counter-UAS technology domains.

This is a clear example of how retired officers can use their service understanding in emerging defence technology businesses. But applicants should not apply casually. They must check whether their post-Army experience, age profile, technical knowledge and business development exposure match the role.

How should eligible officers apply?

The official vacancy PDFs mention that eligible ex-servicemen need to forward two copies of the willingness format to the DGR email ID mentioned in the notification.

The instructions generally ask for:

  1. One willingness format in Excel format, without changing the format.
  2. One signed PDF copy of the willingness format.
  3. The email subject should start with the vacancy code mentioned in the notification.
  4. The documents must be submitted within the due date.
  5. If required documents are not received within the deadline, candidature may not be entertained.

This is where many applicants make mistakes. A good profile can be rejected at the first stage if the application format, subject line or documents are incorrect. Therefore, eligible officers should download the latest official notification and follow the instructions word by word.

Mistakes retired officers should avoid

Do not apply only on the basis of social media forwards. Always check the DGR official website.

Do not miss the vacancy code in the email subject. The PDFs clearly warn that the application may be rejected if the vacancy code is not properly mentioned.

Do not change the willingness format. The instructions specifically ask for the format to remain unchanged.

Do not send only one file if the notification asks for two copies in different formats.

Do not wait for the last hour. Government and official email systems can face delays, and missing the last date can close the opportunity.

Do not assume that DGR will select the candidate. DGR’s role is limited; the final decision is with the concerned user organisation.

Who should take this update seriously?

This update is especially useful for:

Retired defence officers looking for government or private-sector employment.

Officers with technical, architecture, engineering, civil engineering or geo-informatics background.

Officers with media, public relations, journalism or mass communication background.

Officers with defence business development, procurement, electronic warfare, drone or counter-drone exposure.

Officers who want to remain professionally active after retirement.

Officers and families planning a post-retirement career transition.

Final view

The latest DGR officer vacancy update is not a routine job notice. It reflects the larger reality of military resettlement. A retired defence officer carries leadership, discipline, planning ability, field maturity and responsibility. The right second-career opportunity allows that experience to continue serving society in a new form.

However, applicants must act carefully. Since several vacancies close on 22 June 2026 and some close on 24 June 2026, eligible officers should immediately visit the official DGR website, download the relevant notification, check eligibility and submit the willingness format correctly.

For Sainik Welfare News readers, the message is simple: this is an official DGR-listed opportunity, but not automatic recruitment. Read the notification, check the eligibility, follow the format and apply before the last date.
