Check Your DA Instantly

Use this DA Calculator to estimate the Dearness Allowance payable on your current Basic Pay. Enter only your Basic Pay, select the applicable DA rate and view the monthly DA amount instantly.

This calculator is useful for Central Government employees, defence civilians and pensioners who want to verify their DA or DR calculation.

Important

Enter only your Basic Pay. Do not include HRA, Transport Allowance, MSP, NPA or any other allowance.

Your DA Calculation Explained

Your Dearness Allowance is calculated using the following formula:

Basic Pay × Applicable DA Percentage ÷ 100
Example

If your Basic Pay is ₹56,100 and the applicable DA rate is 60%:

₹56,100 × 60 ÷ 100 = ₹33,660

Your monthly Dearness Allowance will be ₹33,660.

Common Questions About DA
Calculation

What is the current DA rate for Central Government employees?

The applicable DA rate is based on the latest officially approved rate announced by the Central Government. Employees should always verify the effective date before calculating DA.

Can pensioners use this calculator?

Yes. Central Government pensioners can use the same calculator to estimate Dearness Relief.

Enter your Basic Pension instead of Basic Pay and apply the current DR percentage.

What is the difference between DA and DR?

Dearness Allowance is paid to serving employees, while Dearness Relief is paid to pensioners and family pensioners.

The percentage is generally the same, but the amount is calculated on Basic Pay for employees and Basic Pension for pensioners.

Should I enter Basic Pay or Gross Salary?

Enter only your Basic Pay.

Do not enter Gross Salary because it includes HRA, TA, DA and other allowances. Entering Gross Salary will produce an incorrect result.

How much salary increases after a DA hike?

The increase depends on your Basic Pay and the percentage increase in DA.

For example, if DA increases by 3%:

Basic PayMonthly Increase
₹18,000₹540
₹35,400₹1,062
₹44,900₹1,347
₹56,100₹1,683
₹67,700₹2,031
₹1,00,000₹3,000

The actual increase in take-home salary may differ because of deductions such as NPS, income tax and other recoveries.

Why is the DA amount different from my salary slip?

The amount may differ because of:

  • Incorrect Basic Pay entered

  • Use of an older DA rate

  • Pay revision during the month

  • Rounding differences

  • NPA or other pay components

  • Salary arrears or recoveries

  • Partial-month salary calculation

Check your latest pay slip before using the calculator.

Does DA apply to MSP?

Military Service Pay is treated separately from Basic Pay. The applicability of DA on MSP should be checked according to the relevant government orders and service rules.

Does DA apply to NPA?

In eligible cases, DA may also be calculated on Non-Practising Allowance subject to applicable government rules. Employees should verify their entitlement through their department or official pay statement.

Does this calculator include HRA and Transport Allowance?

No. This calculator estimates only Dearness Allowance or Dearness Relief.

HRA, Transport Allowance, NPA, MSP, pension arrears and other allowances are not included unless separately mentioned.

Does DA increase automatically every six months?

DA is generally revised with effect from 1 January and 1 July.

However, the increase becomes payable only after formal approval and issuance of the relevant government order.

Is DA paid from the effective date?

Yes. Once approved, DA is generally payable from the notified effective date. If the approval is announced later, eligible arrears may be paid for the previous months.

Is DA taxable?

Dearness Allowance received by an employee is generally treated as taxable salary income.

Pensioners should consider the applicable income-tax provisions while calculating their total pension income.

Can DA decrease?

DA is linked to inflation data. In theory, the calculated rate can remain unchanged or reduce if inflation falls significantly.

However, the final rate depends on the applicable formula, index data and government notification.

Is DA merged with Basic Pay after crossing 50%?

DA does not automatically merge with Basic Pay merely because it crosses 50%.

Any merger or restructuring requires a specific government decision or recommendation of a Pay Commission.

Will the 8th Pay Commission change DA?

Until the recommendations of the 8th Central Pay Commission are implemented, employees and pensioners will continue to receive DA or DR under the existing pay structure.

After implementation of a new Pay Commission, the accumulated DA may be factored into the revised pay structure, depending on the final recommendations and government approval.

Does DA affect HRA?

HRA rates may be revised when DA crosses certain prescribed thresholds, subject to the applicable government orders.

This does not mean DA is directly added to HRA. Instead, the HRA percentage may be revised separately.

How often is this calculator updated?

The calculator should be updated whenever the Central Government officially revises the DA or DR rate.

Users should check the effective date shown near the calculator before relying on the result.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not enter Gross Salary.

  • Do not include HRA or Transport Allowance.

  • Use the correct Basic Pay or Basic Pension.

  • Select the correct DA rate and effective period.

  • Do not treat expected DA as officially approved DA.

  • Check whether arrears are included separately.

  • Verify the final amount from your salary or pension statement.

Disclaimer

This calculator provides an indicative estimate based on the Basic Pay or Basic Pension and DA percentage entered by the user.

The actual amount may vary depending on government orders, departmental rules, rounding methods, pay revisions, pension category, NPA, MSP, deductions and other applicable conditions.

For official payment details, refer to the relevant government notification, salary slip, pension payment order or departmental authority.
