चार दशक पहले National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla में दो young cadets एक ही course और एक ही squadron का हिस्सा थे। December 1985 की एक पुरानी तस्वीर में दोनों NDA से pass out होते दिखाई देते हैं। उस समय शायद ही किसी ने सोचा होगा कि करीब 40 साल बाद उन्हीं दो coursemates में से एक Indian Army का Chief बनेगा और दूसरा Indian Air Force की कमान संभालने के लिए चुना जाएगा।
ये दो अधिकारी हैं General Dhiraj Seth, जो वर्तमान Chief of the Army Staff हैं, और Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, जिन्हें 31 October 2026 से 29th Chief of the Air Staff नियुक्त किया गया है। दोनों NDA के 69th Course और Foxtrot Squadron के coursemates रहे हैं।
पहले एक जरूरी clarification: General Dhiraj Seth CDS नहीं, Army Chief हैं
General Dhiraj Seth ने 30 June 2026 को General Upendra Dwivedi से 31st Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) का पदभार संभाला था। इसलिए उन्हें CDS कहना सही नहीं होगा।
भारत के वर्तमान Chief of Defence Staff General N. S. Raja Subramani हैं, जिन्होंने 31 May 2026 को तीसरे CDS के रूप में पदभार संभाला।
वहीं Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit अभी Vice Chief of the Air Staff हैं और Government notification के अनुसार 31 October 2026 की afternoon से Air Chief Marshal के rank में 29th Chief of the Air Staff का पद संभालेंगे।
एक ही NDA Course, एक ही Foxtrot Squadron
इस कहानी को खास बनाने वाला सबसे महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य दोनों अधिकारियों का NDA connection है।
General Dhiraj Seth और Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit दोनों 69th NDA Course के cadets थे और Foxtrot Squadron से जुड़े थे। December 1985 की उनकी एक पुरानी photograph अब फिर चर्चा में आई है।
NDA में course और squadron केवल academic identity नहीं होते। Cadets training, physical challenges, discipline और academy life का एक बड़ा हिस्सा साथ बिताते हैं। उसी environment से निकले दो coursemates का लगभग चार दशक बाद अपनी-अपनी Services के सर्वोच्च professional पद तक पहुंचना अपने आप में दुर्लभ संयोग है।
हालांकि इसे निश्चित रूप से “भारतीय सैन्य इतिहास में पहली बार” कहना उचित नहीं होगा, क्योंकि इसका कोई official historical confirmation उपलब्ध नहीं है। NDTV ने इसे “perhaps the first time” के रूप में report किया है।
General Dhiraj Seth: Armoured Corps से Army Chief तक
General Dhiraj Seth National Defence Academy के alumnus हैं और December 1986 में Armoured Corps में commissioned हुए। लगभग चार दशक के career में उन्होंने operational, strategic और capability-development appointments संभाली हैं।
उन्होंने Desert Sector में Armoured Regiment, Western Theatre में Armoured Brigade और Jammu & Kashmir में Counter-Insurgency Force command की। Lieutenant General बनने के बाद उन्होंने Sudarshan Chakra Corps की command की और बाद में General Officer Commanding, Delhi Area रहे।
Army Commander के रूप में उन्होंने South Western Command और बाद में Southern Command दोनों की command की। इसके बाद वे Vice Chief of the Army Staff बने और 30 June 2026 को Army Chief का पद संभाला।
उनका career केवल field command तक सीमित नहीं रहा। Army Headquarters में Strategic Planning और Capability Development से जुड़े महत्वपूर्ण assignments में भी उनकी भूमिका रही है।
Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit: Fighter Pilot से Air Force Chief-designate तक
Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit का जन्म 9 December 1966 को हुआ और वे 6 December 1986 को Indian Air Force के fighter stream में commissioned हुए।
उनके पास 3,500 घंटे से अधिक flying experience है। उन्होंने Mirage-2000, विभिन्न MiG variants, Jaguar, Kiran, Hawk, IL-78 और Tejas जैसे aircraft उड़ाए हैं। वे Experimental Test Pilot और Qualified Flying Instructor भी हैं।
उनकी operational profile में Operation Safed Sagar, Operation Rakshak और Operation Sindoor भी शामिल हैं।
उन्होंने Western Sector में frontline fighter air base और Southern Sector में premier fighter training base command किया। इसके बाद वे Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Air Command, फिर Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC) और बाद में Vice Chief of the Air Staff बने।
Government ने 6 October 2026 को उनकी appointment की घोषणा की। वे 31 October को Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh की retirement के बाद 29th Chief of the Air Staff का पद संभालेंगे।
December 1985 से October 2026 तक—करीब 41 साल का सफर
इस कहानी की सबसे interesting बात दोनों अधिकारियों का लगभग parallel career timeline है।
December 1985 में दोनों NDA के 69th Course से pass out हुए। लगभग एक साल बाद December 1986 में दोनों अपनी-अपनी Services में commissioned हुए—General Seth Armoured Corps में और Air Marshal Dixit fighter stream में।
इसके बाद दोनों ने completely different operational domains में career बनाया।
एक तरफ tanks, armoured formations, field commands और Army operations रहे, दूसरी तरफ fighter aircraft, test flying, air operations और Air Force command।
लेकिन लगभग चार दशक बाद दोनों careers एक remarkable point पर फिर parallel दिखाई देते हैं।
30 June 2026: General Dhiraj Seth Army Chief बने।
31 October 2026: Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit Air Force Chief का पद संभालेंगे।
यह सिर्फ एक viral photograph की कहानी नहीं है
1985 की photograph attention जरूर खींचती है, लेकिन असली कहानी उस photograph के बाद के करीब चार दशकों की है।
NDA से निकलने वाले हजारों cadets में से Service Chief के पद तक पहुंचना स्वयं में असाधारण professional journey है। यहां एक ही course और same squadron के दो officers का respective Services की शीर्ष leadership तक पहुंचना इस कहानी को और खास बना देता है।
यह coincidence military training के उस शुरुआती point को भी याद दिलाता है जहां rank, appointment और future distinction से पहले सभी cadets एक ही कठोर training system से गुजरते हैं।
एक साथ Army और Air Force leadership में coursemates
31 October 2026 के बाद एक खास स्थिति बनेगी—General Dhiraj Seth Indian Army के Chief होंगे और उनके NDA coursemate Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit Indian Air Force के Chief होंगे।
दोनों की professional journeys अलग रहीं, लेकिन शुरुआत एक ही institution, एक ही course और एक ही squadron से हुई थी।
December 1985 की वह पुरानी photograph इसलिए अब केवल nostalgia नहीं है। वह लगभग 41 वर्षों की उस military journey का शुरुआती frame है, जिसका अगला frame 2026 में देश की दो Armed Services की highest leadership के रूप में सामने आ रहा है।
