Tamil Nadu has announced an increase in monthly financial assistance for eligible ex-servicemen and widows. During the Public Department demand-for-grants discussion in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on 8 September 2026, the government announced that the monthly assistance would be increased from ₹4,000 to ₹6,000.
The announcement is significant for financially vulnerable veterans and widows covered under the State’s existing ex-servicemen welfare framework.

- 600 widows

Who receives the existing ₹4,000 benefit?

The Pudukkottai District Ex-Servicemen’s Welfare Office currently lists a lifetime monthly grant of ₹4,000 for:
old and infirm non-pensioner ex-servicemen and widows above 60 years.

This is important because the fresh announcement should not be interpreted as a universal ₹6,000 payment to every ex-serviceman or every widow in Tamil Nadu.
The existing official scheme is an eligibility-based welfare grant.
How much additional benefit does the increase provide?
If implemented at the announced rate, the monthly assistance would rise by:
₹2,000 per month
That equals an additional:
₹24,000 per year per beneficiary
The increase therefore takes the assistance from ₹48,000 annually to ₹72,000 annually for a beneficiary receiving the grant throughout the year.
Has the ₹6,000 rate formally taken effect?
The available reports clearly confirm the Assembly announcement to increase assistance from ₹4,000 to ₹6,000.
