RMLAU Ayodhya security recruitment: Why this update matters for ex-servicemen looking for work?

For many ex-servicemen, retirement from uniform does not mean retirement from responsibility.

Doc 01 (1)

A soldier may leave active service, but discipline, alertness, duty sense and security experience remain with him for life. This is why many institutions prefer ex-servicemen for security-related roles, especially where discipline, trust and responsibility matter.

A circulated letter attributed to Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya, has now brought attention to one such opportunity. The letter is addressed to the District Soldier Welfare and Rehabilitation Officer, Ayodhya, and talks about the requirement of ex-servicemen for security duties in the university.

At first glance, this may look like a simple recruitment notice. But for ex-servicemen searching for dignified work after retirement, this type of update has real value.

Because this is not just about a job.

It is about giving trained veterans a chance to continue contributing in a civilian institution where discipline and security are important.

What the circulated letter says?

The letter is from Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya, and is addressed to the District Soldier Welfare and Rehabilitation Officer, Ayodhya.

According to the letter, the university has a requirement for ex-servicemen in its security department. It mentions the need for 20 ex-servicemen who have a valid licence for their own gun or pistol and have the weapon available.

The letter also says that the recruitment will be done as per Directorate General Resettlement norms and wage rates applicable from 1 April 2026. The role appears to be linked with the category of highly skilled security guard with arms.

This is important because the letter is not asking for general security staff only. It is specifically referring to ex-servicemen and armed security duties.

Why ex-servicemen are preferred in such roles?

A university campus is not only a place of classrooms and examinations. It has students, teachers, residential areas, offices, hostels, libraries, events and public movement. Security in such a campus requires more than just gate duty.

It requires alertness.

It requires discipline.

It requires calm handling of situations.

It requires someone who can follow instructions and maintain order without unnecessary aggression.

This is where ex-servicemen are often seen as suitable candidates. They have already worked under discipline. They understand responsibility. They have experience of duty hours, reporting systems, identity checking, movement control and emergency response.

For an academic institution, this experience can become useful.

For the ex-serviceman, this kind of work can offer a second career where his previous service is respected.

Official background supports the security manpower requirement

Apart from the circulated letter, an official GeM tender document linked with Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University also supports the wider security manpower requirement at the university.

The document is for providing security guard, arm guard and supervisor at various locations of the university, including administrative, academic, residential campuses and constituent colleges.

The tender document also shows a total manpower strength of 117 personnel. This includes male guards, female guards, armed guards, Purv Sainik and supervisors.

This official background is important because it shows that the university has been working on a structured security manpower arrangement, not just a casual local requirement.

However, there is one important caution.

The exact letter addressed to the District Soldier Welfare and Rehabilitation Officer should still be verified directly from the university or the DSWO office before any candidate shares documents, licence details or personal information.

Why the District Soldier Welfare Office matters?

The letter being addressed to the District Soldier Welfare and Rehabilitation Officer is significant.

For ex-servicemen, Zila Sainik Board or District Soldier Welfare Offices are often trusted channels for employment-related information. Many veterans may not be active on online job portals. Some may not regularly check university websites or tender platforms. But they may stay connected with soldier welfare offices for pension, documentation, identity card, welfare schemes and job information.

That is why circulating such information through the DSWO can help the right candidates receive the update.

The letter also requests that the information be placed on the office notice board so that interested and eligible ex-servicemen may get employment opportunities.

This small line has a larger meaning.

It shows that the opportunity is being routed toward the veteran community, not only toward private manpower channels.

What interested ex-servicemen should check?

Any ex-serviceman interested in this type of role should not rush only after seeing a forwarded image.

He should first verify the notice from the District Soldier Welfare Office, Ayodhya, or from Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University.

He should check whether the vacancy is still open.

He should confirm whether applications are being accepted directly or through an agency.

He should confirm whether a valid arms licence is compulsory.

He should confirm the required documents.

He should check age, medical fitness, duty hours, wage rate, deployment location and joining process.

He should also understand whether the engagement is direct, contractual or through a service provider.

These details matter because security employment can involve different terms depending on whether the person is hired directly by the institution or deployed through a contractor.

Do not ignore the arms licence condition

The circulated letter clearly mentions that candidates should have a valid licence for their own gun or pistol and should have the weapon available.

This is an important condition.

Armed security duty is different from normal security guard duty. It carries higher responsibility. It also requires proper legal documentation, safe handling, discipline and full compliance with rules.

Ex-servicemen who do not have a valid arms licence should not assume eligibility without confirmation.

Those who have a licence should still verify what exact weapon category is acceptable, what documentation is required and whether police verification or additional approval is needed.

No candidate should share weapon details, licence copies or personal documents with any unofficial person without verification.

Why this update is important for veterans?

Many ex-servicemen retire at an age when they are still physically active and capable of work. But after leaving service, they often face difficulty finding dignified employment that matches their discipline and experience.

Security roles, administrative support, facility management and institutional protection duties can become meaningful second-career options.

But the quality of such employment depends on transparency, correct wages and proper process.

That is why references to DGR norms and minimum wage rates are important. If wages are linked with approved or notified rates, it gives candidates a clearer basis to understand what they should receive.

The official GeM tender document connected with the university also mentions wage-related calculations and deployment categories. This makes it important for candidates to ask for proper details before joining.

What should be the cautious public message?

This update should be shared responsibly.

It should not be posted as a guaranteed recruitment drive without verification.

It should not be written in a way that creates panic among ex-servicemen.

It should not be used by middlemen to collect documents or money.

The correct public message should be that a circulated letter attributed to RMLAU Ayodhya mentions a requirement for ex-servicemen as armed security guards, and interested candidates should verify directly with the District Soldier Welfare Office or university administration.

This is especially important because job-related misinformation can harm veterans. Many ex-servicemen trust such notices because they are connected with official-looking letters. That trust should be protected.

The larger story

The larger story is not only about 20 posts.

The larger story is about how public institutions can use the discipline and experience of ex-servicemen in meaningful roles.

A university campus needs security, order and trust. Ex-servicemen need dignified post-retirement employment. When these two needs meet through a proper official process, it becomes useful for both sides.

For the university, it brings disciplined manpower.

For the ex-serviceman, it brings a chance to continue serving society.

For the local veteran community, it creates hope that their experience still has value.

But every such opportunity must be verified properly.

That is the real takeaway.

Ex-servicemen should stay alert, stay informed and use trusted channels like the District Soldier Welfare Office for confirmation. If the vacancy is genuine and active, eligible veterans should apply through the proper route. If there is any doubt, they should verify before sharing documents.

Service may change form after retirement, but the value of discipline never ends.

This is why such opportunities matter.
