The Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) has launched a 15-day nationwide Special Grievance Redressal Fortnight for ex-servicemen and Veer Naris.
Announced on 16 October 2026, the special campaign is being conducted through all 30 ECHS Regional Centres and 433 Polyclinics. Central Organisation ECHS has said the drive is intended to expedite grievances involving delayed medical claims, card processing and empanelled hospital queries.
Which ECHS grievances are being given special attention?
The official announcement identifies three main areas for expedited grievance handling: medical claims that have been delayed, ECHS card-processing issues, and problems or queries connected with empanelled hospitals.
This makes the campaign particularly relevant for beneficiaries whose cases have remained unresolved and require follow-up through the ECHS system.
What should a beneficiary do during the special drive?
A beneficiary with a pending case should first collect the documents connected with that particular grievance and keep the existing claim or complaint reference available.
Depending on the case, useful records may include:
- ECHS Smart Card details;
- medical claim/reference number;
- hospital bills, prescriptions and treatment records;
- earlier correspondence with ECHS;
- grievance number, if already generated;
- details of the concerned Polyclinic or empanelled hospital.
The beneficiary can then approach the concerned ECHS Polyclinic or Regional Centre or use the official ECHS grievance facility. ECHS maintains an online grievance portal for beneficiary complaints.
What if the problem is with an empanelled hospital?
ECHS separately advises beneficiaries facing difficulty at an empanelled hospital to bring the matter to the notice of the Director Regional Centre.
The official ECHS portal specifically refers to problems such as non-availability of beds, poor service, negligence, substandard treatment, demand for cash payment or other hospital-related difficulties.
ECHS also lists the toll-free number 1800 114 115 for veteran assistance. Its official portal provides Regional Centre contacts, Smart Card services, empanelled hospital information and medical-claim tracking facilities.
Does the special campaign guarantee approval of a pending medical claim?
No.
The announcement is about expediting grievance redressal. It does not state that every pending reimbursement claim will automatically be sanctioned or that existing ECHS eligibility and documentation rules have been relaxed.
A claim will still have to satisfy the applicable ECHS rules.
The practical significance of the fortnight is that unresolved cases concerning claims, cards and empanelled hospitals are being given focused attention under a nationwide grievance campaign.=
Why this update matters for ex-servicemen?
Medical reimbursement delays or hospital-related disputes can become particularly difficult for elderly veterans and families dealing with continuing treatment.
The significance of this initiative is therefore not the creation of a new medical benefit, but the establishment of a special time-bound grievance drive across the existing ECHS network.
If a beneficiary already has an unresolved medical claim, card-processing problem or empanelled hospital complaint, this is an appropriate time to bring the case before the concerned ECHS authorities with complete documentation.
