The All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) has reportedly increased to 155.5 points in September 2026, compared with 154.4 points in August 2026.
The latest figures appear in a social media post attributed to the verified DG Labour Bureau account, @LabourDg. The post also reports an increase in year-on-year inflation from 4.96% in August to 5.57% in September 2026.
The development is important for Central Government employees, defence personnel and pensioners because CPI-IW is used in the calculation of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR).
The CPI-IW increased by approximately 0.71% compared with August 2026.
These figures are based on the supplied social media post. The Labour Bureau’s September 2026 CPI-IW press release is still awaited for independent documentary confirmation.
Will DA/DR Increase in January 2027?
The reported September increase is favourable to a higher calculated DA/DR rate. Nevertheless, the final percentage cannot be determined from one month’s index alone.
Any revised DA/DR rate will require a separate Government decision and official order.
Central Government employees, defence pensioners and other eligible pensioners should distinguish between CPI-IW data, estimated DA/DR calculations and formally approved rates.
Conclusion
The reported rise in September 2026 CPI-IW to 155.5 points, alongside year-on-year inflation of 5.57%, indicates continued consumer-price pressure.
The September figure adds another important input to the January 2027 DA/DR calculation. However, the final rate remains undecided, and no new DA/DR percentage has been approved solely on the basis of this index reading.
