The Railway Board has directed that Pension Adalats-2026 be held across Indian Railways on 15 December 2026, Tuesday, with special emphasis on informing pensioners well before the event.
The instructions were issued through Railway Board letter No. 2026/E(W)/22/01/1 dated 25 August 2026. The order also refers to the existing Railway Board instructions for conducting Pension Adalats.
Railway Pension Adalat to be held on 15 December 2026
The purpose of the Pension Adalat is to take up pending pension-related grievances and provide an opportunity for their redressal.
For 2026, Railway Board has instructed Zonal Railways and Production Units to take necessary action for holding the Pension Adalat on 15 December 2026.
Why advance information has been stressed?
The Railway Board order encloses a Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare Office Memorandum dated 12 May 2026.
The memorandum refers to recommendations made by the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice in its 161st Report.
The Committee observed that the effectiveness of Pension Adalats depends significantly on whether pensioners know about them sufficiently in advance.
Special attention has been suggested for pensioners living in remote areas and those having limited digital access.
Railways asked to spread information through multiple channels
The document says Ministries, Departments and Organisations should conduct a widespread and well-coordinated awareness campaign sufficiently before the Pension Adalat.

Pensioners whose cases are taken up should receive advance intimation
The Railway Board has also specifically stated that Pensioners and Family Pensioners whose grievances are taken up for redressal during the Pension Adalat should be given advance intimation well before the date of the Adalat.
This is an important part of the order because the objective is not merely to hold the Pension Adalat, but also to ensure that concerned pensioners are aware of the opportunity and are able to participate.
What does the document say about grievance redressal?
The enclosed Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare memorandum describes Pension Adalat as a time-tested mechanism for on-the-spot qualitative redressal of pension grievances.
It states that in the last 12 Pension Adalats organised by the Department, almost 75% of grievances were redressed on the spot.
